Corona Lockdown 3.0- Know About Red, Orange, & Green Zones
The extension of lockdown 3.0 will have some relaxations which will be regulated on the basis of the spread of the virus in the districts, which will be identified as red, green and orange zones. The affected area will be a called as ‘hotspot’ zone.
The Government of India has extended the nationwide lockdown for two more weeks till May 17 while easing curbs in places where there is no or limited incidence of Corona Virus infections. Earlier the lockdown was set to end on 3rd May but now it has been pushed for two more weeks to contain the spread of Covid-19.
According to a notification from Ministry of Human Affairs, “after a comprehensive review, and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains in the COVID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) issued an Order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020,”

What is the Green Zone?
The green zones are those districts that either has zero confirmed cases till date; or, there has been no confirmed case in the last 21 days. The classification of districts as red zones will take under consideration
- the total number of active cases,
- doubling rate of confirmed cases,
- the extent of testing and surveillance feedback from the districts.
Those Districts, which are neither defined as Red nor Green, shall be classified as Orange zones.
What would happen in the Red zone?
The red zone will have intensified surveillance protocols, contact tracing, and 100% coverage of the Aarogya Setu app of the Narendra Modi led Government. Contagious zones will have the house to house surveillance, home or institutional quarantining of the affected, and clinical management. Thus, a strict perimeter will be ensured to keep things under control.
So, the question that struck our mind is what will work in this Red, Orange, and Green zone?
In Red Zones
All the economic and construction activities in rural areas, including MNREGA works, food-processing units, and brick-kilns are permitted; besides, in rural areas, without distinction to the character of products, all shops, except in shopping malls are permitted
- All agriculture activities — sowing, harvesting, procurement, and marketing operations in the agricultural supply chain are permitted
- Animal husbandry activities are fully permitted, including inland and marine fisheries
- Banks, non-banking finance companies, insurance, and capital market activities, and credit co-operative societies
- Homes for youngsters, senior citizens, destitute, women, and widows, etc.; and operation of Anganwadis
- Utilities in power, water, sanitation, waste management, telecommunications, and internet
- Courier and postal services
In Orange Zones
In addition to activities permitted in Red Zone, taxis and cab aggregators are going to be permitted with 1 driver and 1 passenger only
Inter-district movement of people and vehicles are going to be allowed for permitted activities only. Four-wheeler vehicles will have maximum two passengers besides the driving force and pillion riding are going to be allowed on two-wheelers
In Green Zones
All activities are permitted except the limited number of activities that are prohibited throughout the country, regardless of the Zone. However, buses can operate with up to 50 percent capaciousness and bus depots can operate with up to 50 percent capacity also, e-commerce websites to deliver non-essential items in orange and green zones
What won’t work in Lockdown 3.0:
Apart from the zone-wise categorization, there is a very limited number of activities that will remain prohibited throughout the entire country, irrespective of their zones.
travel by air, rail, metro, and inter-state movement by the road.
Running of faculty, college, institutions, hospitality services, including hotels and restaurants, place of a huge gathering, like cinema halls, malls, gym, sports complex, social, political, cultural and everyone quite gathering, religious place or place of worship for public will continue to remain banned during the lockdown.
